Cheap train vs renting a car in Romania

Aurus
Yo, planning a trip through Romania and I am torn, trains are dirt cheap but everyone says the routes through Transylvania are way better with your own wheels. Anyone done both, is the extra cash for a rental actually worth it or should I just stick to the slow train and chill?

Trains are cheap and decent between the bigger cities but the real gems like the Transfagarasan highway and those tiny mountain villages are basically impossible to reach on public transport without wasting a whole day. Dropping some extra cash to rent a car in Romania means you can pull over at random castles and roadside food stops instead of watching them blur past a train window. You can dig into the available options and see what fits your route here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/romania .

Stick to the train between Bucharest and Brasov if you want to save the rental money for something else, then rent a car locally just for the mountain loop days instead of paying for a full week.
